Winner of multiple prizes at the 2023 Gdynia Film Festival including the esteemed Golden Lions for Best Film, Press Award and Youth Jury Award, SCARBORN is an unconventional Tarantino-style action drama, infused with dark comedy and loosely drawing inspiration from historical events.
Set in 1794, it follows the story of General Tadeusz "Kos" Kościuszko’s return home following his celebrated role in the American Revolution. Accompanied by his faithful friend and former slave Domingo he is pursued by Russian cavalry captain Dunin, determined to foil his plans of igniting an uprising against the Russians.
In the tumultuous spring of 1794, a young peasant Ignac (Bartosz Bielenia) dreams of claiming rightful inheritance from his dying father Duchnowski (Andrzej Seweryn). After obtaining the will he has only two days to appear in court to prove his title of nobility. With his half-brother Stanisław (Piotr Pacek) trying to prevent the execution of their father’s will, Ignac embarks on a perilous journey to prove his coat of arm. Along the way, he crosses paths with Domingo, a former slave brought to Poland by American Revolutionary War hero General Tadeusz ‘Kos’ Kościuszko (Jacek Braciak), who upon returning to his homeland plans an uprising against the Russians. Pursued by the relentless Russian officer Dunin (Robert Więckiewicz), their fates converge at the manor house of the Colonel’s wife Maria Giżyńska (Agnieszka Grochowska), where Kościuszko is in hiding. Ignac faces a pivotal choice of pursuing his dream of nobility or joining forces with "Kos" to fight for freedom and justice.
